Introduction
Area of Interest
Information systems through the lens of business has been the key area of interest in my regards as I will be going to select a career related to it, most probably of a Business Analyst. Uni Assignment Help, In this context it requires me to reflect upon my experiences related to Master of Business Information Systems so that I am able to get a precise insight about my skills, abilities and competencies for future career.
Key Concepts
The key areas that I would be addressing in this reflective report are in concern to my skill aspects. In this era of technological advancement and for a future career as Business analyst there are a range of key skills and knowledge that are required to be embraced. Some of these skills might be already present in me and some of which I need to work upon.
Reader’s Expectation
In the main areas of assignment a reflection on the strongest skill along with the ones that I need to work upon would be determined after I perform a skill audit against a set standard of ICT skills. Followed by this an explanation would be provided regarding the skills alignment with future career I selected based on a real life based Job Advert and lastly based on that certain SMART goals would be developed.
Identification of Strongest Skills
Based upon the skill audit performed and general life experiences I feel that two of my strongest skills are Data Management and Collaboration. The reason why data management has been my strongest skill is because I have always given priority to maintaining security, integrity and safety of data.In my personal opinion I feel that data could only turn out to be comprehensive when it has been structured in a manner that helps in acquiring information from it. From the skill audit that I have performed I have given myself a score of 4 in the data management section because during my MBIS There was a group presentation in which we had to work on the subject of identifying the innovative ways of managing information Assets of a particular organisation. Data management allows for a better organization of records and documents (Gurat, 2018). From that particular activity I had gained significant knowledge about Data Management which I think has enhanced my inert ability to manage information of all forms and structure them in a logical manner. Collaboration I feel has been an important part of my personality from the very beginning that has eventually developed as one of my strongest skills. This is because in general life I have learnt from my peers as well as my family that if I have the ability to collaborate with people of diverse perception then it not only improves the overall activities progress but also enhances my own knowledge and skills by acquiring them from others. Collaboration can be developed by looking at the level of difficulty (Susilo et al., 2020)
Identification of Skills To Work Upon
In regards to my future career aspiration to become a business analyst I see that project management skills and leadership skills are the areas upon which I need to work upon in the current state. The reason why I chose project management skills to be an area upon which I need to focus upon is because being a business analyst I would be required to indulge myself into a range of project activities and discuss them with varying stakeholders. However I have found myself facing difficulties when it comes to identifying project needs and signifying the parameters of time scale and quality that is required in regards to effective project management. From my MBIS experience I have found that whenever it came to IT project management activities I was not able to perform as per the required standards because I face difficulties in practically implying the foundational concepts of project management effectively. It is important to understand the principle of project management (Musa et al., 2019). Leadership skills have also been one of my weak skills because although I have been able to collaborate in work but when it comes to leading a particular project or a group of people towards certain objectives I have found difficulty. It was during one of my voluntary works at my school level study where I had to lead a voluntary program for my school representation. I was not able to guide my team as a leader because I was not able to address each of the team members' needs and assimilate them towards the progression of the program.
Alignment of Skills with Job Career
In regards to the Business Analyst job career that I have decided for myself I have selected a job advertisement the context of which I have pasted in the appendix section. The skills that I have identified from my skill audit and general life experiences indeed align with the skills that are required for this particular job. Upon reviewing the responsibilities that are required to be performed as a business analyst I found that one of the major responsibilities that are required to be performed is in regards to investigation and document business requirements by using a range of tools. In this particular context I feel that my data management skills would turn out to be in effective use because I have learnt the technique of document segregation and analysis and based on that developed prominent information that would help in different business process analysis and scenarios. Following this my collaboration skills I have found to be a great advantage for this particular post because from the responsibilities I could observe that it would be required for the concerned individual to interact with relevant stakeholders, collaborate with the developers and discuss relevant problems and solutions related to diverse aspects. Therefore this would be easier for me to perform as I have been good at collaboration.
Factors To Work Upon
However there are certain factors upon which I need to concentrate upon in order to become an efficient business analyst as per the job advert I had selected. This is because I could observe that project management has been an important part of the responsibilities that are required to be conducted by the said individual of this particular job post. It would be essential for me to undertake prominent learning and development in regards to basic concepts of project management such as scoping documents, developing project briefs, understanding feasibility analysis and other relevant areas. Companies make an effort to collect and evaluate project data (Burnaev et al., 2018)
SMART Goals with Three Skills
Conclusion
Upon drawing conclusions to the above stated reflective report it could be determined that the assignment has provided the opportunity to explore the kind of skills and capabilities that I possess in the current state by performing a skill audit. In addition to this I was able to acknowledge the strength of my two major skills and the skills upon which I need to focus upon so that I am able to improve myself to achieve my career goals of the future. By reflecting upon my skills I have learnt that there are certain abilities that would help me to support my objectives of becoming a business analyst however there are certain restraints associated with it as well. The reflective report has turned out to be an opportunity for me to understand how I could make a practical application of my strongest skills. As well as what are the key activities I need to undertake in the upcoming 6 months so that I am able to improve myself as a business analyst in future. Understanding the technical needs of my career objective it is essential for me to follow the SMART goals that I have developed in an integrated manner.
