ISYS1005 Systems Analysis and Design Report 3 Sample

This final assessment due in Week 7 consists of a Report containing:

a. a Mind Map (drawing) and

b. a Reflective Review (report)

Since this task replaces a final exam for this unit it should be a measure and evidence of what you learned as a result of your engagement with the unit. Keep this in mind as you respond to the guidelines below, so that your final product is a true reflection of your learning.

Task Description

Report - Reflective Review Report with Mind Map

The following sections will give you a bit more detail on how to approach each of the two tasks for this assignment:

Mind Map

In week 1 we introduced Tony Buzan’s Mind maps to you (see Figure 1 ) and now the time has come to produce your own – we ask you to create a Mind Map of your learnings and experiences in this unit.

The mind map must be drawn in colour and have a main branch for each study week (Week 1 to Week 6) with sub-branches for each of the topics presented in that week. Think of it as a graphical (pictures) representation, or index to, your Reflective Review of your learning.

You may produce the Mind Map by hand, i.e. without the aid of any computer program and scan it for submission as an A4 or A3 sized pdf, docx, doc, pptx, ppt, png, jpg or gif document (other formats must be converted to any one of the above formats before submission or they will not be accepted).

Reflective Review

We have covered many topics throughout this unit while exploring the design of information systems. Our broad unit learning outcomes are as follows:

A. describing the core processes involved in the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for a computer-based information system;

B. simulating the role of the systems analyst with respect to the analysis, design and implementation of computer systems;

C. applying various techniques to the analysis of current systems and modelling of future systems;

D. using a range of analysis and design tools and techniques;

E. comparing and contrasting current trends in the development of computer information systems;

F. producing project management charts; and

G. describe quality assurance and testing procedures in software development.

Your Reflective Review is in the form of a written paper to a maximum of 500 words. Write about what you learned, in particular connecting your reflection of your learning to the above learning outcomes.

Reflective view

Throughout the unit on the design of information systems, I have learned and developed critical skills which align with specified learning outcomes. Following is my reflective review addressing the questions raised:

Critical skills/Principles learned

a.Understanding SDLC: During the weeks I have gained a comprehensive understanding of the SDLC which is the System Development Life Cycle for computer-based information systems. University Assignment Help, This involves recognising phases like planning, analysis, design, implementation and maintenance. I have learned the significance of each phase and the way they are interconnected to ensure the development of systems. I also came to know about two primary approaches of SDLC i.e. predictive and adaptive. This learning has broadened my knowledge of how projects can be structured as well as managed.

b.Modeling Techniques: I have applied several techniques for analysing current systems as well as modelling future systems. I have learned the way ERD, DFD and Case tools can be created to model systems. I believe these skills are essential for effective system design so I tried to gain as much knowledge as I could.

c. Analysis and Design Tools: I have gained proficiency in using a broad range of analysis as well as design tools and techniques which included software tools such as UML, ERD software and most importantly project management tools like WBS and Gantt chart.

d. Project management: During this unit, I produced PM charts. Creating Gantt charts along with project timelines taught me the way to plan and manage SDL projects easily.

e. Quality Assurance and Testing: According to Al MohamadSaleh and Alzahrani (2023), understanding the significance of testing at various stages of SDLC helps in implementing quality assurance measures and ensuring high-quality delivery systems. I have learnt about quality assurance along with testing procedures within software development.

Areas for improvement at SCU:

Though I have gained worthy skills and insights in this unit, it is my belief that there is always room for improvement. Certainly, I am required to focus on:

Coding and Programming: I plan to enhance my coding and programming skills because they are crucial for system implementation as well as customisation. Obtaining proficiency in languages such as SQL, Python, and Java will be a priority.

Advanced-Data Analysis: I emphasize deepening my understanding of data analysis techniques involving machine learning and advanced statistical methods. It will be crucial for navigating complex business problems.

Soft Skills: According to Islam and Evans (2020), effective communication with team members and stakeholders is important for successful system design and analysis.
Therefore, I intend to improve my communication and collaboration skills.

Future Plans at SCU

To ensure that I get better right through my degree at SCU, I will plan to:

Take Relevant Courses: I would enroll in advanced courses specifically related to project management and programming to strengthen my managerial and technical skills.

Participate in Internships: I will seek internships in firms which focus on system development wherein I can apply my skills and knowledge in real-world settings.

Join Student Groups: I intend to join student groups related to information technology and systems to engage in practical projects with peers.

Seek mentorship: I will seek mentorship from experts or industry professionals to achieve guidance and direction on my career path.
