Assessment Structure

This task includes analysing a story, creating a retelling, and then applying a social justice perspective to it.

Instructions

To complete your assessment task, follow the instructions below;

1. Find a partner. Time will be allocated in class for this, or you can arrange your own contact.

2. You and your partner will tell each other a story about playing in childhood. Tell your partner your story, then listen to theirs. Make some notes as you will need to retell or represent this story.

3. Explore resources and activities in the unit about social justice issues. Think about how these issues apply to the childhood story you were told.

4. Pick one social justice perspective to apply to the story you were told.

5. Create a retelling and analysis of your partner’s story to highlight your selected issue. Your submission should be structured in the following way:

1. Part 1: Story (about 200 words)

Heading stating what social justice perspective you have taken

Written analysis, including in text citations

Use examples in the story, and ideas from the unit to analyse the story from the social justice perspective you have identified. Make it clear what you are referencing from the unit.

Full bibliography of all sources used, APA format

Part 1: Story

Title: The Playground Bridge

Retelling of the Story:

My partner recounted a happy experience of playing in a neighbourhood playground in Telangana, Hyderabad, India, when they were younger. As they participated in various games with other youngsters one bright afternoon, they saw a group of kids who appeared to be excluded and teased by their friends. After closer inspection, my partner found that these kids came from poorer socioeconomic households, which made them more susceptible to prejudice.

My partner addressed the marginalised children and extended a kind hand of fellowship out of empathy and a desire for inclusivity. They ignored the social barriers that frequently separate children based on economic inequalities and asked the excluded youngsters to participate in their games. The children who were initially hesitant quickly relaxed as they felt accepted by their new companions, leading to smiles and laughter.

As the days went on, my partner's group assimilated with the kids who were previously excluded, building a more robust and cohesive play community. The walls of socioeconomic inequality started to come down, and the playground changed into a place of harmony and unity where all kids, no matter their backgrounds, could play and laugh together for university assignment help.  

Part 2: Analysis

My choice for the social justice lens to use while analysing my partner's childhood experience is "socioeconomic inequality." This viewpoint focuses on the differences in wealth, opportunity, and resources that exist across people or groups in society, which frequently lead to marginalised communities experiencing exclusion and discrimination (Kennedy, 2021). We can see various aspects of the narrative my companion told that emphasise the problem of socioeconomic disparity.

First, the bullying and exclusion that the kids from lower socioeconomic backgrounds faced show how economic inequities can show up in kid-child interactions. Due to their better financial status, the rich children were able to control the less fortunate kids, making them feel excluded from society. Also we saw that kids were distinguished on the basis of their genders too. Boys were given more benefits and girls had to suffer a lot.

A type of protest against this injustice can be seen in my partner's determination to become friends with and include the marginalised kids in their playgroup (TV2P, 2023). By doing this, my partner worked to promote a more equal and welcoming environment by challenging playground conventions and serving as an ally for kids from less affluent backgrounds.

The exploration of the historical and philosophical frameworks influencing current conceptions of childhood in the unit is consistent with this scenario. It exemplifies how interactions and experiences among kids during their formative years can be influenced by cultural standards and economic considerations.

The learning objective of developing critical actions in many early childhood situations is also connected to this story (TV2P, 2023). It highlights the significance of educators and caretakers in identifying and addressing socioeconomic disparity problems, encouraging inclusive practices, and giving kids the confidence to question unfair social norms.

In conclusion, the playground relationship in my partner's childhood narrative illuminates the social justice perspective of socioeconomic inequality. In order to promote a more fair and equitable society, this analysis highlights the importance of integrating social justice ideals into early childhood education.
